If you ever get a chance to accompany a 5th grader to Biz Town, JUMP! It has been such a rewarding time for both my son last year and for my daughter this year. It teaches students real world and real time life lessons. Last year, I was in the Mayor's office helping the city attorney and Mayor's crew. It was fun to see them getting votes, and generally being the hub of the activity. Today, we were in the Professional Offices and these kids really got into it! There was a CEO, CFO, Appraiser for Real Estate, Meter Reader, and Leasing Consultant. Think about how awesome it would have been had you taken this before starting up a company!

Warm Weather and Cabin Fever!

We have had a remarkable start to the year with lots of phone calls and inquiries. If you have been holding off putting your home on the market, don't do it much longer! When people have cabin fever, they are out looking at open houses, calling our hotlines, and looking on line. There is a window of opportunity and it is fleeting before people get busy with weddings, end of school activities and vacations.

I think when we are cooped up in our homes for longer periods of times, that is when we notice the spaces that may need a little more elbow room or the wasted spaces where we start to realize that we could downsize a little.

I, for one, am looking forward to spring and seeing my first Robin!

Sell My House!

As we have had a few appointments over the last few days where sellers have had their listing with another agency, I am reflecting on the comments of sellers in a market that isn't quite what anyone would like for it to be. We get calls because they are frustrated that their agent hasn't advertised at all. I personally think this is a reflection of the economy. With the cost of print advertising going up, it has been a tough road for the agents. But, we have kept up our 4 full page color ads each month and The Real Estate Book and even though some agents swear that no one looks at those papers and glossy 4 color magazines, we do get calls on them. If we didn't, we wouldn't spend the money on them! We also pay thousands of dollars to upgrade our Trulia pro accounts, Zillow pro accounts, Realtor.com featured agent and listing searches, and so many more things to increase traffic to our listings. We blog, we link-in, we face book, and twitter. If your agent isn't reaching out to these markets, then something is missing. If they just keep asking for price reductions, but haven't stepped up to the plate and provided more exposure, then I would also agree that maybe it is time for a change.

Having healthy relationships with other agents is a very important variable and being fair to each other in this business climate is a necessity to our success as well. Keep that in mind when you select your agent! Do other agents enjoy working with your agent's office staff and team? One of our recent clients had a sign above their kitchen table that state "Because "Nice" Matters". Yes, indeed, it does!
