Standout Events in August
This year is the 70th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which takes place in Sturgis, South Dakota, August 9 through 15. It all goes back to The Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club started in 1936. The Jackpine Gypsies began promoting their first racing event on August 14, 1938. That weekend celebration had a lineup of only nine racers and a small audience watching the races. Today, attendance is close to half a million people with many of the new attendees being families, bringing their children and driving trailers and campers to the rally, riding their motorcycles the last few miles.
